Quick adapter:
Quick adapters are a group of very different test adapters which allow a very fast adaption/deadaption because of their mechanical properties. Thereby much of  the time intensive work, like for example the screw on and screw off of an adapter at the test item, is waived. Often are refined shape locks in quick adapters which make through one control unit movement a form-fitting connection between the adapter and the test item. So a quick arm and disarm is possible. Quick adapter allow a very effective work and they contributed significantly to the execution of a reliable leak test under serial conditions.
 
Measuring master:
Explication:  The measuring master is a unit, on which several connection dummies are located on a common base part. In addition to the version with a central medium access, which provides all connection dummies parallel with the test medium, there is also a version with a medium-access realizable which can be switched off/on for each connection dummy seperatly. This creates the possibility for a systematic containment and therefore a simplified leak detection. Our measuring masters are depending on the customer´s requirements, equipped with a protective cover. This is used to protect the measuring master against mud and damage.
 
Leak detection:
Explication: The leak detection is used to locate one or more leakages on a test item or on a module.
 
Example: In many application cases it is interesting to know on which part the leak is. So that suitable steps like removal, rework or repair can be launched. This is especially useful for economic reasons, for high-priced testing items or entire modules for example complete engines.
 
Vibration protection:
Explication:  For our self-developed 3-link-levers, an additional vibration protection against unintended release of the adapter connection of the test item is available. This means that the safety of our fast adapters can be additionally increased even in critical applications. With using the push button the vibration protection can be unlocked simply and with one-hand.
 
Sealing pressure:
Explication: In order to be able to seal a test item in a process-proof manner, the sealing material should apply uniformly to the sealing surface. Our adapters press the seal directly against the sealing surface or expand the seal internally. The repressed sealing material then rests against the test surface on the workpiece. The sealing pressure is adjustable and lockable on all our adapters.
 
The following principle applies when you set the correct sealing pressure: The sealing pressure is only set as high as necessary and as low as possible!
 
This guarantees an optimal test result and an optimum service life of the adapter. If the sealing pressure is set too high, wear or even damage to the seal and the control part may occur. If the seal pressure is set too low, this can lead to faulty tests, even if the test item is actually ok.  In the case of a not form-fitting fast adapter a disconnection between the quick adapter and the test item is possible, because of a sealing pressure that is set too low. This could causes risks.
Please pay close attention to set always the correct sealing pressure.
 
Test area:
Explication: The test area is the complete, enclosed volume, which is during a test filled with a test medium up to a certain test pressure.
 
Test pressure:
The test pressure defines the height of the pressure at which a test component is subjected to a leak test.
 
Break-off protection:
Explication: The break-off protection is a clamp which is fixed in a special way to the hose package. The break-off protection is coupled through a pull cable to a switch. This switch is coupled to the production line control and can stop the line during activation.
 
Example: A fuel tank system on a vehicle, which runs on an assembly line, is tested for leaks by a quick adapter, which is connected to a leak test device via a hose pack. The leak detector is placed on a mobile console and can travel a limited distance. If the operator doesn´t withdraw the quick adapter in time from the refueling system of the testing vehicle, it could cause with continuous belt feed a damage to the vehicle, quick adapter, hose pack or leakage tester. The break-off protection is a system which is installed to prevent this and stops the production line in time from damage.
 
Leak tester:
Explication: With a leak tester can be carried out, evaluated and recorded different tests and measuring methods for testing elements and devices of the tightness.
 
Heat test:
Explication: The heat test is a testing method for a combustion engine, on which the function of the engine is tested under fuel. Therefore the engine runs on its own and so it´s getting hot. The equipment of a test stand with quick adapter needs a special perception and experience. Hot elements, strong vibrations, a high degree of soiling, a partially coarse working environment, and often workers with protective clothing, require designs for quick adapters.
 
Cold test:
Explication: The cold test is a testing method in an assembly process of an internal combustion engine in which it is checked if the previous installation steps is carried out correctly. The motor is passively driven (towed) by an electric engine and doesn´t run on its own. This keeps him “cold”. The cold test often offers the engine producers a more cost-effective alternative to the hot test because the running-costs are lower. In the designing of fast adapters it is often necessary to use large media accesses and additional vibration safeties due to the vibration of the engine.
 
Underwater test:
Explication: The underwater leak test is a method for leak testing and leak detection. A test item which is subjected with compressed air is lowered into a water bath. Air bubbles occur in the damaged areas and can be recognized visually by the worker or automatically detected with ultrasonic sensors. It can´t be precisely determined a leak rate by this method.
 
Connection dummy:
Explication: The connection dummy is an image of a reference part of a series to be tested if is defect-free in geometry and surface quality. It is supplied by us according to drawing specifications. In many cases elements are great as a masterpiece (please look therefore to the explication of masterpiece) but they are not suitable for repeat measurements because they are too soft. For this reason the connection dummy is usually made of a dimensionally stable and abrasion-resistant material. So that reference measures can be carried out repeatable. Several connection dummies can be arranged together on one base part. For more explication, please look at the explication of the measuring master.
 
Matching pattern / masterpiece / sample part:
Explication: The matching pattern or also called masterpiece / sample part comes from a series of original parts which are tested and are provided to us by the customer. Idially it is an original part as a reference which is defect-free in material, geometry, dimensional accuracy and surface finish. With the matching pattern / masterpiece / sample part we can adjust optimally our adapters for the test task and can set and test them before delivery. If the matching pattern / masterpiece / sample part is made of a soft material, e.g. plastic, this should not replace the connection dummy during the running test process. 1-link-lever:
Explication: 1-link-lever are used as operating parts for our quick adapter and they are available in various sizes and versions depending on the requirements. 1-link-lever develop their power through an excenter and are used with small and simple adapters or if there is not enough space.
 
3-link-lever:
Explication: 3-link-lever are used as operating parts for our quick adapter and they are available in various sizes and versions depending on the requirements. 3-link-lever uses the knee-lift-effect and can so develop very high tensile and compressive forces. Incorrectly adjusted adapters can damage the mechanism. Our 3-link-lever is self-locking via dead center position. For some applications, e.g. during a cold test it is useful to use our optional vibration protection, which is ergonomically sensible and effective in the design. This prevents inadvertent loosening of the adapter connection for tests and increases the safety of our quick adapters even in critical applications.
 
Test medium:
Explication: A leak test can be carried out with varios media such as water, oil or gaseous substances. In case of gas tests, are used hydrogen (usually as a forming gas 95/5 (95% nitrogen, 5 % hydrogen) helium and above all air.
 
The test medium comes into the test chamber via the medium access.
 
Medium access:
Explication: For checking e.g. a pressure drop test, the test chamber is filled with the test medium. Quick adapter so require direct access to the test chamber. Optionally, the media access can also be closed by a non-return valve in order to avoid dripping or reflow of the medium.
 
Interfering contours / clansh contours:
Explanation: Already during the supply phase, we place great emphasis on potential interferences for the design of fast adapters. The more detailed the information (CAD data, master parts, pictures, etc.) of the customer, the better we can rule out possible collisions in the design phase. For the release, the customer gets the opportunity to check the contaminated contours in which he can take the 3D models and 2D drawings of the future QICK-SCHOTT product. Ideally the finished adapter can be tested on a matching pattern / masterpiece / sample part before delivery.
 
Hose package:
Explication: In the hose package the hoses for test and control pressure is guided from the leak test device to the quick adapter and the other way around, as well as electrical leads. Hose packages are used to protect the supply lines and are available in very different, application-specific versions. In order to avoid unwanted tearing during the assembly line production, as an option a protection against breakage can be installed.
 
Measuring diaphragms:
Explication: Measuring diaphragms are used for flow measurements in order to obtain constant flow rates. We can optionally also provide such measuring diaphragms to our adapter.
 
SLS laser internal:
Explication: Selective laser internal (SLS) is a method for produce spatial structures by sinternal from a powdered starting material.
 
Leak test:
Explication: The leak test, also called leakage test is a non-destructive test method, with which components and assemblies are tested for tightness against gaseous or liquid test media. Basically there are no absolutely tight parts, therefore only a leak rate can be determined. Various units of measure are used to specify the leak rate. Often a rough leak test is performed to determine whether the test item is nearly tight at all and if a further test is useful and if the test can also serve to protect the measurement technic. The next test for the determination of the leak rate is called the fine leak test. There are in principle two types: the integral leak test for determining the leak rate and the leak detection, which is used to localize leak points on the test item.
 
Absolute pressure method / waste method / pressure drop test:
Explication: The absolute pressure method / waste method / pressure drop test is the most widely used method in the leakage control. The test item is loaded with the test medium. After a certain setting time, the pressure change (pressure drop) caused by leaks is measured and evaluated.
 
Relative pressure method:
Explication: A test item is pressurized/ vacuumed. The pressure change caused by leakages in the test specimen is measured and evaluated against an internal reference via a corresponding measuring sensor.
 
Fixed leak:
Explication: A fixed leak is a constant and intentional opening in a leak test to achieve a defined leak rate.
 
Leak rate:
Explication: The leak rate is a measure for volume units of a test item emerging from a component in a certain period of time.
